approach

Every product begins with the people who use it.

You stay focused on running your school, club or business. We stay focused on the people who use your software, and on everything underneath that shapes their experience: the design, the architecture, the performance, and what happens when something goes wrong.

We build on the system you already have.

Where you have a system you intend to keep, it remains the system of record. The app or site works from it, so there is no second set of records for you to maintain. Sign-in is designed around what that system supports and what your users prefer: their existing accounts where the system allows it, or a new login flow built for the product.

Hosting, monitoring, security and updates remain with Avayla, and fixes and new requests go directly to the engineer who built the software. Server-side releases go out through the studio's own delivery platform: each release is verified before it receives traffic, any release can be rolled back in one step, and updates do not require a maintenance window.

You work with the engineer who builds it.

There are no layers in between. The engineer making the technical trade-offs is the same person who hears from your users.

what's covered

Interface and user experience design, mobile apps, websites, backends and integrations, hosting and monitoring, security, and support after launch.

how we use AI

Avayla is AI-native: AI is used throughout design, engineering and operations, with an engineer accountable for every decision. The studio's own tooling has AI review every change for correctness before it is committed, and holds AI-written code to the same engineering conventions as the engineer's own.

Client data is handled with the same rules on every project: it is encrypted in transit and at rest, and sensitive and personally identifiable information is never read into an AI model's context.

Valley School Parent Portal app icon

Valley School Parent Portal

iPhone app · backend

A family's school day in one app.

for families
Each child's schedule, assignments, grades, report cards, attendance and absence requests, with a family calendar and school messages.
design
Native to iPhone, in light and dark mode. Home opens on what matters right now, down to the class each child is in, and grades put missing work first.
engineering
A dedicated backend keeps the school's data ready, so screens open instantly. Parents sign in with their school account, then Face ID. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
after launch
Avayla manages the app and backend and handles parent support directly.
Valley School Parent Portal grades screen: the week's scores, with a missing assignment listed first
Grades, week by week
Valley School Parent Portal home screen: the class a student is in now, above summaries of schedule, assignments, grades, report cards and attendance
Each child's day at a glance
Valley School Parent Portal calendar: the month, with each child's assignments marked in their color, above the day's events
One calendar for the whole family

what Avayla built
The iPhone app, the website, the backend and an internal dashboard for usage analytics.
ongoing releases
On the App Store since 2018. Sign-in is passwordless, by email; favorites follow the account; and photo loading recovers on its own when a slow connection interrupts it.

who we build for

Built around how you already work.

  • schools and clubs

You rely on a system you intend to keep

It stays in place, and your staff keep working in it as they do today. We build the app or site on top of it.

  • growing businesses

You have outgrown your current tools

We design and build what comes next, around the way your organization works today.

  • founders

You have a product to launch

We carry it from concept to launch, with the apps, website and backend it requires.

  • teams

    Your team needs purpose-built tools

We build internal software and integrations to fit how your operation runs.

process

How a project runs

  1. 01

    Describe what you need

A short description of where you are today is enough; no brief or specification is required.

  2. 02

    We align on scope

Together we decide what to build first, starting from what your users need most. Pricing is quoted once the scope is defined.

  3. 03

    You see it working early

Working software arrives early in the project, and you shape it as it develops.

  4. 04

We launch it and manage it

Avayla hosts, monitors and secures it, and handles fixes and new requests.

ownership

You may own the code and data and host them yourself, or have Avayla host and manage everything. The arrangement follows your requirements.
